Flatten The Mountain How the Skill Tree Works

The upgrade web that turns a starter pickaxe into a flattening operation.

Skill Tree Guide

The Skill Tree is the second sentence of the official Roblox description for a reason. Mining without it is a demo. Mining with it is the incremental. The pick in your hands is a different spend — see the pickaxe guide for the tool, this page for the web. This guide explains how to use the tree as a system. For letter ranks, use the Skill Tree tier list. For a printable order, use the planner. Read all three if you like winning arguments in lobby chat.

Opening the tree without dying

The tree is a menu. Menus eat camera time. Open it inside a notch, not on the rim, because the eagle does not pause for UI. On mobile, landscape mode helps you see both the node web and the sky. If you cannot find the button, the controls page covers HUD hiding in first-person.

Families of nodes (no invented names)

Until DomBlox publishes a named node list, think in families:

  • Speed — you, then drones, then the whole flatten clock.
  • Income — the +$ popups get fatter.
  • Workers — drone slots, drone efficiency, turret unlocks.
  • Survival — movement, recovery, anything that shortens eagle downtime.
  • Loot — chest luck, once interiors exist.
  • Flex — trails, umbrellas, picks with no stats.

Buy down the list, not across into flex. That is the whole strategy. Details and the first-ten spend live on the tier list.

How the tree talks to the shop

A drone you cannot afford is a tree problem as much as a shop problem. Income nodes make the shop cheaper in time, not in sticker price. Speed nodes make every existing worker worth more, which is why they beat a second turret. If you feel “the shop is too expensive,” you skipped income. If you feel “I have cash and nothing happens,” you skipped workers. The drones and turrets page is the shop half of this paragraph.

Chests and codes are tree fuel

A buried chest is a lump of cash. A future code is the same lump. Both should enter the tree at the current bottleneck, not at a cosmetic. If your bottleneck is eagle deaths, a movement node is a flatten node. If your bottleneck is empty air over a finished cluster, a drone slot is a flatten node.

Do not wait for a prestige

No official prestige / rebirth note was in the description or in the empty badge list at launch. Play as if the tree is permanent. Hoarding for a rumor reset is how you stay on the sand. If a flatten-to-prestige ships, launch notes and updates will get a section the same day we can prove it.

Session practice

  1. Spawn, mine a little, open tree (getting started).
  2. Buy speed, income, worker.
  3. Park the worker.
  4. Flatten a ring (how to flatten).
  5. Open tree again only in a notch.
  6. Repeat until the sun is a disc.

If you are in co-op, do not stand in the doorway of the tree UI while five people wait to mine your feet. Step aside. The mountain is a shared object.

When the tree feels too big

It is supposed to. Incrementals sell a web you can stare at. Use the planner checklist and ignore branches that do not say speed, cash, worker, survival, or loot. You can theorycraft flex nodes after the tan is real. Until then the tree is a shopping list, not a personality test.

If a node description is ambiguous, buy a single rank and test on a small cluster. Refunds may not exist. Curiosity is cheaper at rank 1 than at rank 10.

Shop first versus tree first

New miners open the shop because drones dominate the thumbnail. The tree still comes first. A drone with no speed node is a slow pet. A speed node with no drone is still a faster you. The beginner guide puts the tree in minutes two to ten for that reason. If you already bought a turret by accident, do not respec-panic; stop buying turrets until the next drone checkbox on the planner is ticked. The mountain does not care which menu you opened. It cares how fast the next voxel dies.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions miners ask most.

How do I upgrade the Skill Tree?

Open the HUD button, spend cash on speed and income first, then workers. Do it from a safe notch so the eagle does not grab you in the menu.

Is the Skill Tree the same as the shop?

No. The tree multiplies you. The shop sells drones and turrets. You need both. See drones and turrets.

Should I reset my Skill Tree?

Only if the game offers a respec and you dumped into cosmetics. There is no documented prestige yet.

Where is the rank list?

On the Skill Tree tier list. This page is the how-to.
